Saved by His precious blood - Martin Lloyd Jones   In 2:13-16 [Paul] reminds these Ephesian Christians that they are people who have realized that all their own good works, all their good living, all their activities, their nationality, their religion, and everything they had before, are entirely useless, and that they are made Christian, and brought into this unity which is in the Church, entirely by the action of the Lord Jesus Christ, and particularly by the shedding of His blood upon the cross.... That is how these people have been brought into the unity.... These people are those who have been 'bought' into God's kingdom and family at the cost of 'the precious blood of Christ'. No one can ever belong to this family, and participate in its unity, unless he believes that.     The apostle then goes on to say that it is only because of this that we can pray. 'For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father' (2:18).... Hebrews 10:19 teaches us the same thing.... It is only by relying upon the blood of Christ, by believing that His blood was shed for us and for our sins, that God 'made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin' (2 Corinthians 5:21) . . . that we have access to the Father.     The Apostle ends [chapter 2] by saying that the people whom he is exhorting to continue in this unity are those who, as the result of all this, are now fellow-citizens, and members together of the household of God, and are established together and 'built (together) upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets', which means the teaching and the doctrine of the apostles and prophets. And because they are on this foundation they have become 'a habitation of God', who dwells in them.       그의 보배로운 피로 구원 받았다. - 로이드 존스   바울은 에베소서 2:13-16에서 에베소의 그리스도인들에게 다음과 같은 사실을 상기시키고 있다. 에베소의 그리스도인들은 그들의 모든 선한 행실, 그들의 모든 선한 삶, 그들의 모든 활동들, 그들의 모든 민족성, 그들의 모든 종교 등 그들이 전에 가지고 있던 모든 것은 전혀 쓸모없음을 인식한 사람들이라는 것을 상기시키고 있다. 또한 그들은 자기들이 그리스도인이 되어 교회 안에 있는 연합으로 인도함을 받고 나온 것을 깨달은 사람들이다. 그것은 주 예수 그리스도의 행하심, 특히 그리스도께서 십자가에서 흘리신 보배로운 피로 말미암아 된 것이다. 그들이 인도함을 받아 참여하게 된 연합은 바로 그러한 것이다. 이 사람들은 '하나님의 나라로 들어와' 가족이 된 사람들이다. 그런데 그것이 그리스도의 보배로운 피로 값 주고 되어진 일이라는 것이다. 어떤 사람도 그것을 믿지 않고는 그 하나님 나라의 권속이 될 수 없고 그 연합에 참여할 수 없는 것이다.   사도는 이어서 우리들이 기도할 수 있는 것은 바로 그것 때문이라고 말하고 있다. 바로 그 때문에 기도가 가능한 것이다. "이는 저로 말미암아 우리들이 한 성령 안에서 아버지께 나아감을 얻게 하려 하심이니라"(엡2:18) 히브리서 10:19도 역시 같은 것을 가르치고 있다. 우리들이 그러한 나아감을 얻게 되는 것은 그리스도의 피를 의지함으로써만이 가능한 것이며, 그가 피 흘리신 것은 우리를 위함이며 우리들의 죄를 위한 것임을 믿어야 하는 것이다. 또한 하나님께서 "죄를 알지도 못하신 자로 우리를 위하여 그리스도를 죄 삼으신" 것을 믿음으로써 가능한 것이다.(고후5:21)   사도는 에베소서 2장을 끝내면서 이렇게 말하고 있다. 이 연합에 계속 거하라고 하는 권면 받고 있는 사람들은 이 모든 것의 결과로 인하여 이제 같은 시민이 되었고 하나님 집의 권속이 된 사람들이라는 것이다. 또한 그들은 "사도들과 선지자들의 터 위에 함께" 세우심을 받은 사람들이라고 말하고 있다. 사도들과 선지자들의 터는 그들의 교훈과 가르침을 의미하는 것이다. 그리고 그들이 이 기초 위에 있기 때문에 그들은 "하나님의 백성'이 되었다. 하나님은 바로 그 하나님의 거민들 중에 거하는 분이시다.
